Psalm 51: 17 “The sacrifices of God are a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.”

Broken…that place where all seems empty and we long for some peace. In the beginning we had a huge zeal and excitement and then some issues took place that feels like a knife has cut in so deep. On fire and active in ministry, but then a dryness comes through. Who do we turn to? Who can we talk with? Yet we are supposed to show the strength, but whispers say why don’t you give up and faint. The process is meant for us to be yielded to His will. When we are broken that’s were God can have His way in us. Many broken people walking around filled with hurt on their hearts and starting to doubt, but need to realize or remember that this broken place was never meant to harm them, but to prepare them to be able to minister and reach those who will be placed on our path to make a difference in. See it’s not for us, but it’s all for Him that the new work can begin. When we are broken and it seems like God is not there and the devil speaks lies that our Heavenly Father doesn’t care. Where are you Father? Please take this wounded pain away. If we never feel the sorrow, how will we truly rejoice in our tomorrow? The mistakes and shortcoming don’t have to be constant torment. We can repent and ask God to forgive us. He loves us that much to cleanse it every time. This is not a reason to on purpose do things that will have a bitter consequence, but to lean on His grace because without it we won’t last in this race.

Taking a Stand

Fear tries to grip a hold of the courage on the inside and threaten the hope that is unseen. Someone must take a stand. Even in the face of compromise and obstacles, taking a stand and lending a thoughtful hand. One may be mocked and at times feel confused, but a stand is where they will land. We all believe in something that radiates from the heart, but will we agree to take our part even when we don’t know where to start? God in His word encourages us to stand “having done all to stand.” Why do we always want to comprehend? There is faith that doesn’t have to see, but in spite of pain will stand in the everlasting army. Marching on and on to the music of the harmony and holding on in the upbeat of the vision. Now is the time for us to stand even after we get weak and bend. The whisper will say why do so after all that’s already happened? When you believe you keep going cause you know that this is not the end. That somewhere and somehow the wonder of God’s goodness is living, breathing, beating and screening. It’s here for all to see. Will you take that stand and join in on the harmony?

Embrace Your Artistry

I was walking home from town and as I was enjoying the walk, this lady that saw me grow up came in passing. She asked me, ‘Where are you working now?’ I told her that I’m just doing freelance writing part-time. Every time someone asks me are you working or something close to it, I have that dread feeling of discontent. The lady stopped me in my tracks and poured lots of encouragement and wisdom on me. Little did I know my walk home would lead me on a message concerning the art and beauty within me. This messenger encouraged me to dig deeper with my writing and to explore art more. She built me up with words that there is a lot within me and that I need to not focus on what’s going on around me. As she continued in her words, she told me not to think lowly of myself because I’m not doing the traditional living of where people expect us to be and how we should do things. Once again I was encouraged to create my own establishment of art.

Some may not know, but I’ve been interested in and explored various kinds of art. Art such as performing arts, fine arts and writing. Being creative is beautiful! We should never be ashamed of our artistry and we must learn to embrace it. Regardless of our circumstances.  Art is beauty within that sparkles outwardly in many forms. What art do have in you? Are you embracing the artistry within? Sometimes we wait to see what happens or we may have a lack of courage or motivation because of what we think we don’t have. With God we have everything that we could have never imagined. Taking small steps and then bigger ones will lead us on a brighter path. There is no limit to our art! Embrace your artistry!

Life is a Classroom

sky and line

Life is like a classroom ready to explore. The lessons are often a variety. Some softer and others more tougher to swallow. It’s up to us to digest and take it in. Learning comes in many forms and sizes and education expands beyond a traditional setting. What are we willing to learn in this journey? Or do we secretly wish that we already had all sorts of things in it’s place and everything worked out. It was never meant to have it figured out, but to trust more, obey the leader of all leaders. Timing in life is a beat of a rhythm we learn. When, where, what and how. The clouds are not fatal, but a clear instrument to brighter days. The sunrises are  with a refreshing of a new day and the sunsets teach us the calmness and need to reflect and recharge to prepare for what’s ahead. We have a map, compass and guide. Let’s learn in this classroom of life and keep trying in the midst of what seems like a never ending fight.

My Thoughts on Frugal Living

I like and agree with ideas on frugal living. Especially during times like these. I have checked out different sites on frugality and even have watched TV shows on spending less. Sometimes it seems like the cutting back can be taken to the extreme, but you don’t really know what someone may be going through or understand the reason behind their choice. I think it’s great to save and spend less where you can. Modest living is not only beneficial for the individual, but also others in return. There are a lot of small or even bigger sensible tasks that we can learn to do ourselves. Why not try DIY practices? Simplicity is missing in some areas sometimes because the grand often gets a lot of attention. One of the frugal sites I find enjoyable is The Frugal Girl . There are several tips and suggestions on there that are helpful. Below are some highlight points on the importance of these healthy actions.

Rainy Days: Like the wise ants store up for later, I believe it’s valuable to store up in our personal lives. Who knows, we just may need it when we least expect it.

Helping Others: Instead of spending money or using items carelessly or unwisely, we could use it to meet someone else’s need or desire.

Embrace More Simplicity: Everything doesn’t have to always be so complicated, deep and big. Sometimes we need to learn to take pleasure in the simple meaningful things.

Discover New Things: Information about ourselves and others can be learned when practicing wise saving and making. Our imagination and creativity can expand in ways that we haven’t thought of.

10 of My Favorite Quotes

Today I decided to do a quotes post. I’m a words person so I definitely love reading quotes and even reflecting on them. It’s something about words that speak what you’ve been thinking or experiencing. Words are like color on dark and gloomy days. They have the power to do amazingly wonderfully creative things. Words can speak life and they can be the warmth from the cold. Here they are!

1) We may encounter many defeats but we must not be defeated.” – Maya Angelou

2) The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.” – Helen Keller

3) God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.” – Reinhold Niebuhr

4) The will of God will never take you where the grace of God will not protect you.” – Unknown

5) ” Life is like a book with many chapters we call seasons. Some chapters tell the story of love, drama, comedy, mystery, loss, adversity, growth, disappointment, triumph, etc. Some chapters are dull and ordinary, others intense and exciting. The key to enduring, persevering and being hopeful is to never stop on a difficult page, to never quit on a book or a chapter that seems too long. Some chapters may be sweet but too short. Your words, thoughts, actions, non – action and choices are the pens that write the pages in your book. Have the courage and faith to keep turning the pages, believing better chapters lie ahead. God is the author and finisher of your life. Trust. Listen. Believe. Grow in God’s word. Activate your gifts and talents. Be creative. Be kind. Be patient. Be faithful. Be grateful. Be fruitful.” – Diamond Taylor

6) When we long for life without difficulties, remind us that oaks grow strong in contrary winds and diamonds are made under pressure.” – Peter Marshall

7)  The greatest tragedy in life is not death, but a life without a purpose.” – Myles Munroe

8) You can never cross the ocean until you have the courage to lose sight of the shore.” – Christopher Columbus

 9) When one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.” – Alexander Graham Bell

10) Use what talent you possess: the woods would be very silent if no birds sang except those that sang best.” – Henry Van Dyke

5 Lessons from the Rain

Today it’s raining here in Bermuda. Pouring raining! I’m glad that I’m nicely inside. 🙂  Well I thought of some lessons that we could learn from the rain.

1) Rain is apart of growth: Just like natural rain is needed for water and food supply, rainy seasons of our lives are needed for growth and development.

2) Rain is cleansing: As the rain naturally pours down and washes away things, so does the stormy rains that can help wash away the clutter; hindrances and other things that are no longer needed in our lives.

3) Rain is refreshing: Spiritual rain can restore our souls and renew us within.

4) Rain pushes us beyond comfort: For those of us that love to stay dry and warm, when sudden rain comes and there’s no shelter near; we have no choice but to keep doing what we need to do in order to get where we want to go.

5) Rain produces something: Rain is productive. Without it we wouldn’t see the beauty of our environment.

Thank God for rain!

My Current Gospel Songs Playlist

I love, love and love gospel music. I’m not ashamed to say that either. I was exposed to lots of it as a kid. It’s nothing like that JESUS music. That uplifting, soulful and in the spirit music! Here are 6 of my tops that I’ve been listening to lately.

1) Imagine Me by Kirk Franklin: I’ve always enjoyed Kirk Franklin’s music since I was a kid and could relate with them in different ways.

2)  Still Able by James Fortune & FIYA: This song is very encouraging and reminds me once again that God is still able no matter how things look.

3)   He Knows My Name by Francesca Battistelli: I first heard this song on Christian radio and absolutely love it. This song speaks volumes, beyond what I can explain how.

4) Dwell in Me by Shayla Woods: I have this beautiful song on iTunes and it just takes  me to that sweet worship place. I remember when I first heard it, I couldn’t stop playing the song. 🙂 So glad that I know Shayla and am very proud of  her and happy for all that she is doing.

5) Finish Strong by Jonathan Nelson:   One of those upbeat songs that will have you dancing on your feet. I’ll finish strong!

6)    I Win by Marvin Sapp: This is another song that when I first heard it, I ended up playing it over and over. A very inspiring song to listen to!

Music is very therapeutic and calming to me. What are some gospel songs that you are currently listening to?

I enjoy reading all kinds of books. When we read we can learn a lot about life and even people. I want to share my top 5 spiritual books.

1) Bible – The word of God is the most important book that anyone could ever read. It brings me great encouragement, inspiration, correction and education. My favorite book in the bible is psalms, but I also like reading the proverbs. There are many topical stories and lessons in the bible that can help everyone with navigating through everyday life.

2) Divine by Karen Kingsbury

This was the first Karen Kingsbury book that I’ve ever read. While reading this book, I was in tears at certain points. As an empathetic person I definitely felt the pain of the troubled woman in the story.

3) Breaking Free by Beth Moore

Beth Moore is one of my favorite bible teachers! The words God speaks through her gives life and hope. Breaking Free taught me a lot about the different challenges and struggles many of us face in life and it also taught me about having liberty in Christ. At the time I was going through this study, it helped me realize, recognize and work on things in my own life. This book is a great book to read and study.

4) Grace for the Good Girl by Emily P. Freeman

What are 5 books that you enjoy reading?

Always been an underdog. The one that seemed like they will struggle and always be at a disadvantage. Tried hard with this and that, but through it all I have been kept. I have broke down and cried hard many times. More times than I would like to think. And then all the cloudiness begins to sink. Some could see and hear my tears on the outside, but the pain was like something stabbing me sharp and violently on the inside. There were some things on my heart that I couldn’t understand and that’s the reason I could no longer pretend. Rise, rise above it all and no matter what get up after each fall. See it may look like things could never happen and that you will fail each time you set out to sail, but that’s not the end of that tale. In Christ we always have the victory, even if it seems like success was never meant to be.
