5 Lessons From Prayer

pray-1359098_960_720

Prayer is a spiritual discipline that all believers and Christ followers must exercise and operate in. There are many kinds of prayers including  warfare, declaration, intercession, confession, and thanksgiving. There are various lessons and instructions in the bible teaching us how to pray.

We must keep our connection with God and one of the most effective ways of doing so is through talking with Him and sitting to listen to what He is saying to us. Interceding on behalf of others is something that needs to be a priority in our lives and it must become a godly habit to look out for the next person. Below are some highlighted lessons from prayer to consider.

1) Passionate prayers from the righteous are of great advantage(James 5:16). Do you take pleasure in talking to the Lord? Are you enthusiastic about coming before the Lord in prayer? It’s not about what we show outwardly, but more with what’s truly taking place inwardly.

2) To obtain the mercy and grace we need, we must come boldly before God(Hebrews 4:16). Boldness displays our courage and confidence in God. When we come boldly before God we step up in the midst of whatever is going on and believe in God to do what He promised He will do.

3) We must make every effort to get our heart right with God. There are hindrances that become road blocks  in our prayer life and become barriers from us seeing the manifestation of what God desires to manifest amongst His creation. Any sin, holding on to offense, disobedience and nursing of wounds(instead of allowing God’s healing to flow) can cause delays and interruptions along the way.

4) Praying God’s will which is in His word will accomplish much(Isaiah 55: 11). Nothing beats praying the will of God. During our prayer time we must get rid of or throw out  any unscriptural opinions or ungodly requests.

5) Be specific in your requests, expressions and petitions. It’s ok to tell God exactly what’s on your heart and mind. Yes, He already knows, but He wants us to give Him our all and that includes our cares and concerns.

How has the power of prayer impacted your life? What are some lessons that you have learned through praying?

5 Lessons From Joshua

pink-jericho-573240_960_720

The book of Joshua is an example of how God will take those that follow His lead from a place of famine and desert to the place He has promised. There are major themes throughout the book of Joshua including the Israelites preparing for battle, the spies in the land of Canaan and Rehab’s promise, the Israelites crossing the River of Jordan and the Israelites gaining territory of Jericho. Below are some highlighted lessons to consider from the book of Joshua.

1) When God gives us a promise there will be obstacles and difficulties that stand in the way. Opposing forces are a part of the process to reach where God is taking you and what He has for you. There’s no way around it or no other way that will keep you from opposition.

2) God can use anyone or anything He chooses. Rehab in the bible was a prostitute who helped the Israelites conqueror the land of Canaan. Whoever or whatever God uses to help bring you to destiny may not always be the ideal.

3) Praise brings the walls down. There’s something that troubles the enemy when we praise in the midst of battle. The walls that block us from reaching our Jericho must come down with continuous praise.

4) Even after we have made mistakes, been through a lot of pain and find ourselves in a broken place, God can provide for us a place of restoration and healing. In Joshua chapter 20, it mentions The Cities of Refuge. That was a place where people who accidently or unintentionally murdered someone could find shelter and refuge.

5) The pain in the process is vital to bring about the divine outcome. We need the pain. No pain, no healing. When there’s no pain, there’s no overcoming and no testimony.

Faith In The Midst of Fear

clouds-808748_960_720

Fear comes to everyone. We live in a fallen world. There’s not one that has never been afraid. Many times we fear when we feel that we are not in control of the situation or circumstance we are in.

There are some that fear the unknown(to them) and especially when they are not sure how something will turn out or what will happen.

What do we fear? In this world today there are many fears that many have. Some fears are job loss, lack of finances, failure, rejection, people and even death to name just a few. Satan who is the author of fear brings it to cripple us and torment our minds. We can choose to give in to fears or we can choose to overcome them in faith. Below are some points to consider on faith in the midst of fear.

1) Just a little faith you need to make it through. In Matthew 17: 20 it tells us we just need a mustard seed faith to move mountains and that nothing will be impossible.

2) When our eyes are on Jesus we can do what we cannot do in our own strength. Peter in the bible was able to walk on water when he kept his eyes on Jesus. As soon he put his eyes on the stormy sea he began to sink.

3) There’s a calmness that comes when we have faith in God who controls everything. We can be in a ragging storm yet be at peace when our faith rises above our fears.

5 Lessons From Health

medicine-wheel-401408_960_720

I’m no expert and neither am I a perfect example in health, but our health covers many areas and parts of our lives. Physical, spiritual, emotional and relational aspects all need our attention, effort and care. When we make an effort to practice healthier habits and choices for our minds, bodies and spirit we begin and continue on the journey of wholeness. Below are some highlighted points to consider about health.

1) Our health is not about being perfect in everything we do, but making better choices when we learn to and know better to. As human beings we will mess up  in one area or another concerning all aspects of health, but it’s not too late or too bad to make a better choice the next time around.

2) Discipline is developed over time and with persistence. This doesn’t necessarily mean if you are having difficulty or lack of discipline that you should give up or that you’re not able to do it. You may just need to balance it out and find different ways to have good health in various areas.

3) Having a lifestyle that works on being healthier is for everyone. Waiting to something goes wrong or to a later time will keep us always pushing it back and can lead to negative consequences later on.

4) Little makes much difference! When we take at least small efforts that may grow later on, we keep on moving in our journey to living  an effective life that operates in wellness, calling and purpose.

5) There will always be room for improvement concerning health. As we grow, learn, make mistakes and even sometimes do the wrong thing ,that shows us that we have space for improving.

The Gifts In Longsuffering

holzfigur-980784_960_720

Can you recall something you had to deal with for a long time? Maybe you thought it would take less time or it wouldn’t go the way it went. What about the times when we think we get through something only to find ourselves going through it for an extended period.

Think about receiving gifts during your longsuffering? Can you? How can there be gifts in suffering for a long time? Well you see it’s all in our perspective and the way we choose to live our lives. Below are some points to consider on the gifts in longsuffering.

1) Love Developed In Us: Most if not all, don’t like going through something difficult, unpleasant and opposing for a long time. We would take the relief as soon as it could come and hope it comes as fast as it could. Love is a gift that needs to be developed in us and displayed through us in longsuffering. When we can suffer and endure something that God has allowed for us to bear for a long time in the right attitude and perception, we can walk out and live out the love that God wants us to operate in.

wooden-figures-1007134_960_720

2) Fruit Growing In Us: As believers we are called to bear fruit and walk in the Spirit of God and to be led by the Holy Spirit. God dwells in every Christ follower and bearing fruit is the evidence that we are growing in the Lord. Longsuffering is a fruit of the Spirit. Some may question, how can suffering for a long time bring out something good in us? When we are yielded to the Lord, longsuffering will help bring forth patience and self- control in our behavior, actions, interactions and other areas in our lifestyles.

3) Living In Forgiveness: Just as Christ is longsuffering towards us in our mess and sin,  as  Christ followers we must learn to be longsuffering towards others. Forgiveness is really freedom for our minds, hearts and souls.

4) Humbling Ourselves: When we humble ourselves in suffering for a long time, God can raise us up at the right time. We must let go of our will to have a smoother path in life and to attempt to avoid adversity. For every believer, the suffering we face in this world will be wiped away one day.

Called Out For His Glory

flames-897427_960_720

Ever struggled with the reality of being the ‘different’ one? Have you ever wished that the unpleasant and awkward feelings and experiences of being different around others(even other believers) would disappear?

In my transparency I find myself in a place of constantly being called out by God. Now I’m getting used to it, yet it’s very uncomfortable. All humans have longings to be deeply connected and have a sense of belonging and closeness.

Yet you can notice the ones who often stand out, stand apart and carry around the stigmas that come with it. We don’t need pity or sympathy it’s actually something we have to learn to embrace, accept and thank God for. Dwelling on all we have to face and endure is a camp ground for Satan to get a hold of and use for his advantage.

I can relate very much to other outsiders, misfits, underdogs, introverts and outcasts. In fact sometimes those are the types I tend to easily connect with and occasionally click with. More often now, I hear and see others express their observations of these kind of things and the loneliness they experience. When I see or hear a person express it I often want to tell them they are not alone, I understand and pour encouragement on them and support. We are in a world that puts a lot of attention on friendships and relationships and that’s where we have to remember that whatever God allows for us to experience and not to experience is the best thing that can happen. God has the best for us and we must not settle for less. Sometimes the best is not always pretty and acceptable to us or others. God’s ways are higher!

When we are called out by God for His glory these are the situations we need to allow God to mold us and work through us. No we are not better than anyone and we are not less than anyone either. Those in the crowd and other forms of intimate groups  at some point will have to learn how to be separate and possibly in the past have been through the same thing. No need to envy it. Appearances are not always the details of everything. When we feel like we are being pulled away, I believe that’s where we should be drawn more to the Lord. Yes, those feelings of loneliness and isolation will sometimes linger, but God gets the glory for the results that come with yielding in to being called out.

Here are some highlighted points to consider about being called out.

1) You’re being called out to be called in. We need community and fellowship, but sometimes we need to be away from the noise and distractions that come with being mixed in the crowd. How can God work through us if we put people before God and relationships become idols or crutches?

2) God wants to be our everything. The One that is the priority. Friendships with a certain amount of distance don’t  compete with God who  deserves the position and place of being our everything.

3) You stand out as a flame to be on fire for Jesus. There are some things that will cause us to lose our fire if we try to go off the path that God has chosen for us to travel. That fire is not for us, but for the glory of God.

Joyful Morning

sun-rise-693384_960_720

Victory has won. What a joyful morning it was when Jesus was no longer in the grave. He was born to rise. Praise God Jesus rose and conquered sin and death that didn’t have the power to keep Him dead. Jesus got the keys of hell and death so that we don’t have to ever enter that place of everlasting torment. Our Savior  is alive!  Our Savior defeated everything that Satan tried to do and is still trying to do. Below are some highlighted points to consider on the victorious resurrection of Jesus Christ.

1) Death could not hold the Son of God’s body down and the stone that was heavy was not a problem that could stop God’s power.
Some thought that when Jesus died that was it. No! His Father is stronger and powerful than death which makes Jesus stronger and powerful than death. Nothing can get in God’s way for His purpose to unfold.

2) Everything that Jesus said will take place, never falls short and when it comes to pass it is a reminder that He is TRUTH. In Luke 24  the angel told the women “He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.”  The bible also says they remembered his words.

3) Nothing that is buried in our lives that needs to rise has to stay that way. Because Jesus rose from a buried state and has all power, whatever is buried in our lives that needs resurrection can rise above defeat, difficulty, struggle and more.

4) Jesus’ resurrection and good news is for all  believers to spread and tell others. Mary Magdalene, Joanna and Mary the mother of James are examples of believers who went out and told the apostles. So must we go out and tell others of Jesus and His gospel. It’s their choice to make whether to believe and accept or not, but we must do our part.

The Greatest Sacrifice

cross-671379_960_720

During this time of holy week, we take the time to reflect and express gratitude for the greatest sacrifice our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ done on the cross. In this world many make so many sacrifices to help themselves, their families and others, but not one earthly sacrifice can compare to this highest sacrifice. I don’t think we as humans can fully comprehend Christ’s love for us. Below are some highlighted points to consider about this greatest sacrifice.

1) Humility was displayed so that we could have beyond what we deserved. This sacrifice took humility. Jesus laid down His life so that we can experience abundant and enteral life. He put aside himself , his feelings and all the suffering He endured.

2) Jesus suffered in pain so that we could receive healing. The lashes on His body and all the pain He was put in He embraced it so that when we are sick or hurting physically, emotionally, spiritually and mentally we can experience the healing that came through His stripes.

3) He took on the shame so that we could be forgiven. It was all those that put Him up on the cross that sinned and all of His human creation who sinned and deserved death and hell. Jesus was laughed at, mocked and accused of things that He didn’t do. He was willing to go through all of those things so that our sins won’t be held and counted against us.

4) Jesus felt and experienced on the cross everything we would feel, go through and so much more than anybody could suffer. The bible says Jesus is acquainted with grief. He knows what it’s like to be rejected, hated, and betrayed.

5) All those who believe and receive Jesus has something so magnificent that they will receive FREELY that this world could never give them. For those that continue to refuse Jesus and what He has freely done for them, the good things on this earth will just be it for them. Those that receive Jesus and accept the free gift of salvation has something much more meaningful, precious and worthwhile to look forward to beyond the good things on this earth.

Opening Up

easter-1015665_960_720

Opening up is not always comfortable and easy for me to do. In fact sometimes being closed, having my guard up or a wall in place seems safer. So when I’m in a place where I begin to open up in a good way that’s the work of God in me. I don’t believe that we should open up to everyone and everything as that can be dangerous. We do have to be careful.

I’ve allowed negative and bad experiences to keep me in that shell and closed place. I find it difficult to trust in certain situations. Because every time I let that guard down or open up something usually happens to disappoint and most times it seems too soon and frequent. There are times I have thought ‘When will something go right and good without being quickly interrupted.’ Through God I get to that place where I begin to hunger and thirst. Those hunger pains are good, that’s where we can be filled with the power of God. That thirst of desperation is meant to lead us to God.

As we open up we can find that even when we are broken, God begins to come in and take control. An encounter with Him brings the spiritual refreshment and transformation that we need. We don’t need to stop there, because the truth is there will still be highs and lows and we still need to learn how to godly open up when we are in a low place.

  • Opening up allows God to remove and tear away those outer layers of bondage.
  • Opening up is where I learn to release fears and frustrations.
  • Opening up is where my true identity begins to show and shine for the glory of God.
  • Opening up helps me to accept what is beyond me to change or control.
  • Opening up lets me know God will bring the right experiences at the right time.
  • Opening up is where I find my delight and joy in the Lord.

So when I open up to God and His Spirit there’s some incredible things He does just to be how mighty He is. When we  carefully open up to people and release those things that have hurt us and wounded us, the love of God can do wonders. There are times where we may still feel previous emotions and face disappointment , but we don’t have to  or need to stay there. Just push to open up to the Lord…just let his rushing wind and power flow over us, in us and out of us to reach others for His Kingdom.

Rekindling Passion

passion-flower-947515_960_720

Sometimes my passion is at a high, other times its at a low and sometimes it seems to disappear. Passion with all it’s brightness and love works along with zeal to assist with the outcome of something. What is your passion? Where is your passion?

Often times our passion needs to be rekindled by the power of God. When our passion seems to be at a low or not even there we can feel like we are depleted, ineffective and messed up. We may have some questions like, how did I get here? What did I do wrong? Will this ever change?  Below are some highlights to consider in rekindling passion.

Reach Up: Worship that is persistent will do powerful things. It will lift one from the dumps, to desperation and then to deliverance. When we feel like our passion is no longer there we have to move beyond what we are going through and reach up to God.

Reach In: What is that desire or longing that we have? Look inwardly and see why we have it? Is it something good or godly? Where can these longings be filled? The truth is when we are deeply longing for something, that is our time to pursue God more,  spend more time with Him and seek for more of Him.

Reach Out: It is important that when our passion is at a low or seems to be gone, we must reach out to others. We must become more aware and see who we can touch, help, inspire, talk with and fellowship with.

How is your passion for life and purpose doing? What are some ways do you seek to rekindle passion?
